Championing greater support for autistic girls and women

Supporting people with autism and their families is a mission that is close to our hearts at Corra Sound and so we're delighted to announce that our next concert - on Saturday 17th June (8pm) at St Mary’s Church in Horsell - will be performed in support of the not-for-profit organisation Appeer. Connecting autistic girls and women, Appeer is led by those with lived experience of autism and other neurodiverse conditions, working to build understanding and to develop life skills, providing support with social and emotional issues, as well as mental health and wellbeing. Here at Corra Sound, many of our singers have either lived experience of autism or are carers and advocates for neurodiversity within our families. That’s why we have invited representatives from Appeer to join us at the concert, sharing more information about their work and inviting attendees to lend their support.

A special programme

When it comes to the concert, the programme is brimming with glorious repertoire that portrays the power of water, rivers and female strength. Suitable for the whole family, we will pair songs from the African diaspora with those of nostalgia and longing, covering musical styles ranging from jazz and pop to contemporary choral works.

While this includes some of our signature vocal works such as Sylvie, with dynamic body percussion and thrilling harmonies, and She is the River, a powerhouse trademark a cappella work, we are greatly looking forward to performing first-time Corra performances. The latter includes Cry me a River, covered by many artists but perhaps most memorably by Ella Fitzgerald; Let the River Run, by Carly Simon; and many, many more extraordinary compositions and arrangements. The entire programme promises to be moving, joyful and uplifting, placing music of great power and vulnerability side by side.

*Free attendance for those of you joining us at our workshop Please don’t forget that if you’re attending our singing workshop (for women aged 18+) on Sunday 11th June at Horsell Village Hall, from 3-6pm, you get to join us at this concert for FREE when you bring at least one paying adult guest. We very much hope to see you at one or both of these events!
