Listen up! A festive playlist for you to enjoy

With the Winter nights and chilly weather drawing in, here’s a chance to put your feet up and relax, listening to our latest repertoire from the comfort of your home or during your seasonal travels! We are delighted to share this new Corra Sound YouTube playlist showcasing many of our festive favourites, recorded live at this very special concert in Surrey.

When our friends at Horsell Sings! Community Choir got in touch to ask us to join them for their Christmas concert, we jumped at the opportunity.

With former Corra Sound singer Anna Tabbush as their leader, this was a rare chance to collaborate and, of course, to perform in the beautiful St Mary’s Church in Horsell. Thanks to Chris Grace, a keen videographer and choral enthusiast, we are thrilled to be able to share a YouTube link to those recordings.

About the repertoire

For this festive programme, we paired choral classics and audience favourites by Benjamin Britten (3 movements from Ceremony of Carols), Edward Elgar (The Snow) and Andrew Carter (A Maiden Most Gentle), with contemporary works by Winnie Bruckner (Veni, veni, Emmanuel), Joanna Forbes-L’Estrange (In the Bleak Midwinter) and our director, Amy Bebbington (Blessed be that Maid Marie).

Depending on availability and other logistical factors, Corra Sound is anywhere between 9-15 singers. On this occasion, we had a small but mighty ensemble who were all fortunately in fine voice and health, despite the ‘super flu’ and other viruses doing the rounds at this time of year.

Special thanks go to all the singers who delivered a shimmering and dramatic performance, those who performed outstanding solos (and delivered rather brilliant introductions), alongside our collaborative pianist, Caroline Page, whose effervescent playing was supportive, sensitive and artistically stylish.

What a joy it is to conduct such a skilled and committed ensemble!
