Workshops

Corra Sound is fortunate to consist of members with a diverse choral leadership skill set. This includes the Director of Training for the Association of British Choral Directors, Professor of Vocal Jazz and Improvisation at the Guildhall (GSMD) and former Swingle Singer, Natural Voice Practitioner and Artistic Director of Community Vox, Trustee and Choral Tutor for Sing for Pleasure, and a practising member of the Society of Teachers of Alexander Technique.  This doesn’t even begin to mention the numerous degrees, teaching qualifications and extensive performing experience we all cherish.

But the most important values we each share as singers and leaders are humility, integrity, passion and empathy. This is what makes Corra Sound such a rich and compelling team.  (Cor means heart, and our music-making lies at the heart of everything we do).

Scheduled Vocal Workshops

We also offer scheduled 3-hour or one-day workshops, designed as a unique opportunity for anyone with a passion for singing - no matter how much or little vocal experience you may have - to get together, work on new techniques, have fun and build confidence in your vocal abilities, culminating in a shared performance with Corra Sound. Refreshments and music will be provided. Places are limited and booking essential. You can find out more about our next workshops at our Events page or by emailing us here.

Testimonials from workshop attendees:

"I really enjoyed the shared leadership from different Corra members, the difference in styles between everyone was very inspiring and I loved the egalitarian feminist vibes of shared leadership. This aspect was so refreshingly different from my experiences in other choirs where there is just one leader throughout (and usually male!)."

"The programme was well chosen for the amount of time we had and a great selection of songs and activities...Thanks to all of Corra Sound for giving up your Sunday. You were so friendly and welcoming, which provided a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone. You all have such lovely voices and your love of singing is obvious. Thanks for sharing it with us."

Our Team

Our team are experienced in working with children and young people in school, choral and community settings, and with both professional and amateur musicians, singers and conductors.

Unsurprisingly, we are particularly keen to introduce our ever-growing knowledge of female composers, especially with young people and concert-goers, and would be delighted to visit your educational setting or music festival to share this insight with you. Please rest assured that all our workshop leaders are enhanced DBS checked with Public Liability Insurance, and memberships of relevant professional bodies (including ISM, abcd, STAT).

Corra Sound is able to offer workshops in addition to performing at your Festival. Our diverse range of leadership skills means that we can easily tailor our delivery to the specific requirements of the festival. Members of our team can cover folk, classical, jazz, improvisation and musicianship skills (Kodaly & Dalcroze) in a vocal capacity, and also choral conducting, songwriting, arranging, repertoire by female composers and Alexander Technique for something a little more bespoke and unique. We can cover these genres and topics from Beginner to Advanced level.

Rest assured that our approach is inviting, encouraging and professional, meaning that attendees are immediately put at ease and able to participate without judgement.

We welcome approaches from festivals where a specific type of package can work advantageously not only for the organisers, but also for seasoned concert-goers and new audience members curious to learn more.

The Corra Sound team would be delighted to deliver vocal workshops in your local community which could cover a variety of different styles - from folk to jazz, world music to opera!

Our down to earth, encouraging and inclusive approach quickly puts attendees at their ease, inviting all to relax and share in the enjoyment of collective music making.

This package could combine with your community festival or event to widen participation and to broaden audience appeal.

Many of us lead work-place choirs (with law and media firms), and have worked in the city, so we understand the territory of the corporate world, especially when it comes to team building, transferable skills and motivation.

Singing together in this environment, which can be a great leveller, offers a unique bonding experience. It breaks down barriers, releases endorphins and inspires even those with no musical background whatsoever to experience the joy of singing together.

If you’re looking for a team building experience offering both physical and mental health benefits, a personalised client event (which could include workshops and performances), or something bespoke please let us know. We would be delighted to tailor our service to your needs.

Between us, we have delivered projects and workshops for organisations such as Glyndebourne Education Outreach, Sing Up, Surrey Arts, Sing for Pleasure, School Festivals and Youth Choirs. Whether you want to focus on an inspiring “singing for fun” workshop, integrating musicianship skills into your school, introducing upper voice repertoire by female composers, training your teachers, or delivering a one-off project, we will work closely with you to deliver the brief.

Our team are all educators (and mums with school age children), working in a variety of roles at schools, colleges and conservatoires. We all share an inspirational approach and professional outlook to our musical delivery.
